Sharon has been an author for more than 20 years and in the process has written more than 14 non-fiction books. Of her best-known is Charlie Wilcox, which has a list of 10 prestigious award nominations including the Governor General's literature award.

Sharon is Canada’s first children’s writer/young adult novelist, to receive the title of War Artist. In March 2009 Sharon went to Afghanistan.
